the art of travel II

so when you're travelling in luxury, what do you need? I have compiled a list of the best items one can bring on an adventure.

1. Olympus created a stunning little retro camera called the PEN, which they named after the original pen film cameras from the 60s. This one takes incredible images.

2. If you're buying a silk scarf, it should be Hermes. The soft silk and colourful patterns make the perfect accessory for covering your hair a la Grace Kelly or keeping warm on cool nights.

3. Louis Vuitton bag. As I have said, nobody knows travel like Louis Vuitton. The Speedy bag is the classic style that has been around almost as long as the company itself.

4. Stylish shoes by Cole Haan are also comfortable and perfect for shopping the bazaar or climbing the top of the eiffel tower.

5. Ray Ban makes the best sunglasses for shielding yourself from the glare of the mediterranean or hiding those sleep-deprived eyes.

and some more LV love...

Louis Vuitton II

Oh, and another cool thing about LV:

Louis Vuitton and the Art of Travel

I often wonder about people who spend money – like thousands of dollars – on products just for the sake of it. As I get a bit older, I think more of classic investment pieces I can spend some extra money on [a burberry trench, louboutin shoes] and so I am trying to be very targeted in how I splurge.

Louis Vuitton will soon be one of those splurges. The company, founded in the mid-19th century, has been making luggage almost since its beginning. They literally changed the way people travel in the Victorian era when they eliminated the rounded top of the typical travel trunk in favour of a flat top, perfect for stacking.

If anyone knows how to do travel, it is the house of Louis Vuitton.

So how is travel an art, exactly? Well, it's more than just knowing what to bring on a long train ride or flight (neck pillow!), it's about looking good, feeling good, experiencing new things, taking lots of photos, and most importantly learning from each place you visit. travel is about experiencing the world. when in rome, do as the romans do, so the saying goes... when you visit a new place that has a new culture, embrace that culture and learn everything you can! It doesn't hurt to take a few things away with you - if you're in turkey, bring back a beautiful mosaic image, or travelling to morocco a beautiful wood carved piece of furniture.

travel is about so much. and when you've got the equipment, then you can focus on on the fun.

I’ve got the Burberry trench, next up is the louboutin pumps, and number three on the list will be a piece of LV – even if it’s just the passport holder. Sigh.

Louis Vuitton is instantly recognizable, perfectly indestructable and truly a little piece of luxury. Like I said, they know how to do travel.

elie saab couture

in my eyes, the lebanese-born elie saab can do no wrong, particularly with couture. despite what reviewers say, i don't believe that couture fashion needs to be about continuously moving fashion forward (style.com claims the collection to feel heavy and old-fashioned). couture, to me, is about beauty and art. it's about creating pieces that are not only pleasing to the eye, but also pieces that portray a sense of romance and elegance. while for many fashion is about differentiating oneself from the rest of the group, for me it's about just feeling beautiful. and elie saab is one designer who knows beauty. the luxe collection is the epitome of beauty and elegance. besides, fashion - like beauty - is really in the perfectly smokey-eye of the beholder.

armani prive couture fall 2010

with a hint of 1940s feminine glamour, the armani prive fall 2010 couture collection is the stuff any woman's dream is made of, combining flirty femininity, interesting details and unique shapes. and the details - cinched waistes, elegantly draped jackets, leather gloves, skirts with just a bit of a flare, and the hottest heels around, the collection is utter perfection.

dior couture

John Galliano - the man is obviously a genious. His couture shows never cease to amaze and show off his creativity and his imagination like no other designer (save perhaps McQueen, RIP). But Galliano, he's an artist. An artist in every sense of the word. His pieces present themselves as soft brushstrokes on a monet painting - particularly so with his Fall 2010 couture collection.
Inspired by the garden at Christian Dior's home, the collection features dresses and gowns dripping in flower petals and are reminiscent of the garden in alice in wonderland.
