new york[er] state of mind

In case you missed it, last week's issue of the New Yorker memorialized the late great Alexander McQueen in its annual style issue, featuring a pretty painting of McQueen's butterfly hat, which was the star of his Spring 2008 collection and paid homage to his muse and longtime friend Issie Blow.

This got me thinking about inspirations, paying homage to those we've lost, and New York City in general, which ultimately led me to the New York City woman: what inspires her, what does she wear, what makes her cry. [For many women, New Yorker or not, the loss of McQueen quite probably fulfilled the latter.] And I got to thinking that a New York City woman doesn't need to live there to achieve that title, it's rather a state of mind [an empire state of mind, if you will], and one that can be had simply by spending time with the city. whether that's through film, images, art, television, or actually having visited.

so i'm going to be coming up with a few New York inspired posts. In the meantime, here are a few looks I feel could inspire a New York woman... tough, feminine, strong, flirty, complicated. just like New York City itself.
