The Ascension of Beauty

Fashion Magazine is really one of Canada's top magazines -- they have amazing editorials and really great feature stories on interesting topics, including this piece by the uber talented Sarah Nicole Prickett.

Recently they have expanded into video, and this one, featuring Editor-in-Chief Bernadette Morra interviewing Mark Fast about his Luminato installation, is just beautiful. A must-watch!

The installation is a must-see too! The Ascension of Beauty (a fabulous title, non?) features a rope installation that stretches across the glass gallery at Brookfield Place, with a dress at the end. The dress, in his signature knitwear style, was inspired by Lancome's rose and celebrates a new partnership between the designer and the beauty brand (a lipstick in this colour).

omg garance

the always stunning and brilliant garance dore has just posted the most amazing collection of photos from haider ackermann's resort show. they are just too good not to share! she usually opts for straight digital photos, proper shutter speeds and apertures, immaculately lit, but this shoot touched more on that vintage appeal of film cameras. there is a romance to film that gives them an emotion you just can't capture on digital cameras. Stunning. Simply stunning.

McQueen's hologram

An appreciation of the genius that the world has lost, here is Alexander McQueen's hologram of Kate Moss. He truly broke ground in the fashion industry, one of a very few with a clear vision of all that one could really do with a fashion show. From holograms to live streaming, to turning his models into sea creature-aliens, McQueen was truly a visionary. He is greatly missed.

jason wu resort 2011

let me caveat this post by saying that as soon as anyone says "inspired by paris" they can do no wrong in my eyes.

jason wu, the wunderkind of fashion and a favourite of Michelle Obama, released his resort 2011 collection at the St Regis hotel in NYC. It was inspired by "the louche 1960s style of iconic French actress Anna Karina; vintage album covers and the general joie de vivre of the yé-yé music movement" according to stylelist.com.

All I can say is that i would buy this whole collection if i could. whole thing.

inspired by... stylish films

After watching some of the century's most stylish films, I felt inspired. Inspired not only to look just as stylish as the likes of vivien leigh or audrey hepburn, but inspired to create looks based on their most famous roles. Here they are, by decade, my looks inspired by some of my favourite fashion films.

Annie Hall
