gorgeous gucci

milan has really been the highlight of fashion month so far. and gucci has stood out beyond the rest.

I've mentioned that my own preferences generally lean toward the romantic when it comes to fashion, and frida giannini, the fabulous head of the house of gucci, has used the fall 2010 collection to explore that at new heights.

her tailoring, as always, was flawless. her looks are classic with a modern romantic twist, and just a pinch of 60s boho chic. add to that mixed textures (big for fall) and layering, and what more could you want?

sexy, classic, modern, bohemian, all rolled into one. how can it be anything other than perfection?

style icon: lauren santo domingo [aka minimalism II]

lauren santo domingo, a contributing editor at Vogue, is, in my very humble opinion, one of the chicest ladies in the business.

her style is so effortlessly simple. she sticks with classic cuts, pencil skirts, flattering colours and clearly understands that less is more. her hair and makeup are natural, never overdone, which keeps the focus on her.

she is an obvious follower of that famous coco chanel saying : "dress shabbily and they remember the dress. dress impeccably and they remember the woman."

lovely.

what to wear... travel chic

people often say that comfort is key when you travel. i say that being chic is just as important. it adds to the feeling of excitement when you embark on an adventure. when you know you look good, you feel good. when you feel good, you enjoy your surroundings that much more.

I'm not saying you need to don four inch stilettos just to board a jet, but you won't find me in sweats either.

this is what i will wear on my trip to morocco...

perfection

going back to my post on minimalism, i needed to take a moment to appreciate just how gorgeous this look is.

makeup - simple, natural except for the pop of red on her lips. true old hollywood glamour.

hair - messy chic done right. like she rolls out of bed looking effortlessly perfect.

dress - simple, classic elegance. neutral. flattering. day to night. perfection.

shoes - the pop, the wow factor. the shoes [matched with the lips] take this look to a whole new level of perfection.

overall - words cannot describe...

what to wear: fashion week edition

ah fashion week: new york, london, milan, paris - the weeks never seem to end.

twice per year, the fashion industry packs up and heads to the four most stylish cities in the world for exhibitions of the following year's trends.

but not only is it an exhibition of designers' newest creations, it is a time for the industry itself to show off. with the rise of the streetsyle blog, fashion weeks turn the very sidewalks outside fashion shows into proverbial runways, where editors, reporters, and socialites alike show off their persional style to the world.

so if you are lucky enough to attend fashion week, or you just feel like experiencing the buzz outside the tents, here are a few of your essentials.

le minimalisme

if asked to describe my personal style, one word springs to mind: minimalism. I adhere to the saying that less is more, in both my style and my life.

I admire celebrities and fashion industry types who stick to this style as well.

for me, simplicity is key.

Why? Because when you keep things simple, you let the clothes speak for themselves; but they will never speak too loudly and they will never overshadow the person in them.

a simple palette of neturals, monochromatic black and gray, even in vivid colour, simplicity is always classic. from grace kelly to jackie kennedy to marilyn monroe, and even modern stars like rachel bilson, jennifer aniston and angelina jolie, minimalism is a way to portray grace and elegance, no matter what the situation.

minimalism can be modern, or it can harken back to the golden age of cinema, but no matter what, it is always in style.
