the stunning photography of Mark Shaw

It's the middle of the week and I'm feeling particularly uninspired. So, here are some of the lovliest photographs I have seen in a while, courtesy of the amazingly talented Mark Shaw.

it's spring!

Finally, after months of chilly nights and early sunsets, pining for the feeling of warm air and a glimpse of green grass, spring has arrived.

Now, granted, it may take a couple more weeks to actually feel like spring outside, but i am still giddy with excitement at putting away the winter coat and putting on a fun, flirty spring dress, my classic trench, and, er, rainboots.

This spring, I will be wearing this...

celine [not dion]

I realize that this is old news now, but given that it is March, and women everywhere are starting to put together their spring wardrobes, I thought it would be fitting to pay homage to phoebe philo's stunning spring collection for celine.

as style.com suggests, the focus was on softness and strength, those two fabulous traits that come with motherhood [philo has recently had a child of her own].

her juxtaposition of strong, clean lines, soft, flowy fabrics, leather, camel and a mostly-neutral palette highlight her minimalist roots, but this collection gives them a modern twist and a sense of classic timelessness that is hard to ignore.

this collection received rave reviews from everyone, and at celine's fall collection this past month, items from spring were seen everywhere, on everyone.

blushing beauty

ok I am slightly obsessed with rosey blush tones for spring. can you tell?

ever since it appeared on the spring 2010 runways (Alberta Ferretti, Burberry Prorsum, Dior, Chanel, etc) I have been lusting after this fresh, flirty colour.

There really is no better way to freshen up a wardrobe than by selecting a few key pieces in this lovely shade. Perfect for any skin tone and any age, it belongs in the nude category but - as the name suggests - more flushed, like when you've just had a bit of sun.

inspired by monet

i'm really thinking about spring lately. spring weather, spring flowers, spring beauty, and especially spring fashion. my particular inspiration at the moment stems from my trip to new york, at the MoMA, viewing Monet's famous water lilies.

now i realize what a cliche it is: florals for spring, not exactly breaking ground here, but this is less about flowers themselves, as the feeling of flowers, and the soft inspiration of monet's stunning and dreamy works.

browsing through some of the new pieces that are out there, i've come up with some looks that i feel are best described as the impressionism of fashion. soft colours and patterns, flirty fabrics anchored by a classic trench or leather shoe.

the countdown to spring is on.

spring beauty

ah beauty. is there anything better than makeup to make a girl feel beautiful? knowing the way makeup enhances your natural beauty, drawing attention to the eyes, lips, or even cheeks, gives any girl a boost of confidence that almost nothing else can match.

spring beauty this year is fresh and clean. nearly-there makeup with a focus on the eyes is the best way to keep your look modern and yet classic. perfect for any age, this look defies fads, those fickle looks that come and go, and remains a timeless style that aboslutely anyone can perfect.

so how do you get this look at home? put a shimmery shadow on the inner corner of your eyes, do create that fresh doe-eyed glow. add a coat of black mascara to both the top and bottom lashes. select a blush the same colour as your cheeks when they've had just a bit too much sun and top it off with a lipstick one shade lighter than your natural lip.

herewith, the look perfected on the runways at chloe, chanel and gucci.

evenings pickup on the fresh look by simply adding a strong red lip. very old Hollywood, this look keeps the eyes natural, with an extra coat of mascara, but adds a pop of bright cherry red, to bring out the inner femme fatale in every girl.

this look demonstrated to sexy, ultra-feminine perfection by Dior and Dolce & Gabbana.

Chanel, always the trendsetter, shows off spring's hottest nail colour. a far cry from last year's uber-trendy jade/mint green, this year focuses on a beautiful, natural cappucino-inspired taupe.
